We are an un-auditioned all-comers community choir based in Invercargill that sings predominantly gospel music.
We rehearse at 7:30pm on Tuesday nights at Central Hall, First Church, 155 Tay St, Invercargill.
Why We Sing
We sing because it is fun and helps us feel good. WARNING: Being part of a group singing in multi part harmony is very powerful! A love of the gospel genre is what has brought our group together. Obviously there is a religious/spiritual component to the music, but you don't need to be religious in any way to enjoy singing this music. A key feature of gospel music that many can relate to is an emphasis on enduring and overcoming hardships. We also sing a variety of genres. The gospel material can date back as far as the 1920s, when the enslaved people in the southern States of America gained courage and comfort from this unique blend of music
We learn by listening and copying, which is known as the 'Call and Response' method.
It doesn't matter whether you can read music or not - just a love of singing (and the ability to sing in tune) are all you need.
Do you want to join us for a free session?
We are all-inclusive.
Anyone of any size, shape, age, creed and everything else is welcome.
